Amped 2007
September, 2007

Each year we put on a one-day street event called Amped. Two blocks in front of the crossroad youth center are closed, a stage is constructed of
heavy equipment trailers, several bands play, and there is a skate boarding demo. For the first time we had great weather, hiphop artists, and a skateboarding competition. But the design of this event is not to be a great community event to “keep kids off the street”. The entire focus of this event is to confront youth in our community with the gospel of Jesus in a language that they can understand. Our confident expectation is that through the prayers of His people, the music, and the speakers the Lord Jesus would be able to change hearts, lives, cause repentance, expose sin, and transfer those who where once trapped in darkness to the kingdom of light. We expect God to show up and work miracles, modern miracles trough flawed servants.
.
During the message time the speaker did his best to allow the Spirit to guide him. And during that time several students in the crowd began to weep, as did the speaker. His heart was breaking as he spoke. Breaking for the lost standing in the crowd and breaking because some could not hear the truth as it was spoken plainly. Often times we wonder why we expend the energy to put on an event like this. The answer came in the form of an email shortly after the event. A student wrote detailing her struggle with cutting, bitterness, and depression but said, “I was at Amped yesterday…you really got me thinking, and got through to me. Thanks”. We fight and weep and pray so that some may find the light. So that all who shall may come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Thank you for helping.
