Summer Camp
2008
The theme of Camp this year came out of Matthew 16:15. Jesus had just asked His disciples who the crowds and masses said that He was, and after they answered, He made the question much more personal. He asked, “Who do you say that I am?” Over the course of the week, the students were challenged to consider who they thought Jesus Christ was. They were also confronted with the questions “Who do others say you are, and who do you say others are? Who does Jesus Christ say that you are if you believe in Him, and who does He say you are if you don’t?” We are always privileged to share individual stories that Jesus brings about. One such story is about a young man who was very angry when he came to camp. He was angry with God for his current and past situations in life, and at just about anything else he could think of. On Thursday, just before lunch, he decided that he had had enough of Jesus. He said in his heart that Jesus hadn’t proven himself real, despite all he had heard during the week, and that Jesus couldn’t prove himself real in the time that was left. Soon after that, as he was walking alone across a field, it began to rain. He looked up and began to cry, which is something he hadn’t been able to do in many years, and all at once he knew that God was real, that Jesus Christ did love him, and that he needed to repent and turn his life over to Him! For the remainder of the week, he couldn’t stop talking about how Jesus Christ had changed his life forever! We found out that the day after he got home from camp, he led one of his friends to Christ! This is one of the beautiful stories the Lord has blessed us with having as a result of this years camp. We were blessed to have over 100 students and staff this year including over 22 from Newark, NJ. We had an outstanding kitchen staff that put out some of the best camp food in recorded history! The Lord kept us safe and did not allow any major injuries to take place. And although there was a fair bit of warfare, God was faithful and did not allow our enemy Satan to continue to attack his sheep and carry them off like prey.
